Afro Samurai ist die epische Geschichte eines schwarzen Samurais, der sich für den Tod seines Vaters rächen will. Als Kind muss Afro mit ansehen, wie sein Vater brutal ermordet wird. Bei dem Kampf ging es um das Stirnband von Afros Vater, das Stirnband Nummer eins, welches dem Besitzer gottgleiche Kräfte geben soll. Der Besitzer dieses Stirnbandes kann jedoch nur vom Besitzer des Stirnbandes Nummer zwei herausgefordert werden, während dessen Besitzer von jedem Gegner herausgefordert werden kann. Mit dem Schwur auf Rache macht sich Afro auf die Suche nach Justice, dem Mörder seines Vaters.

The fight choreography and soundtrack give it a unique edge that still holds up today. However, the series’ biggest flaw is its length—at only five episodes, it rushes through its story and character development, leaving you wanting more depth behind the bloodshed. It’s fun while it lasts, but it ends just as it starts to get interesting.
