Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire Ratings & Reviews
- jameshatton_ukOctober 25, 2025This is Lovecraftian horror at its finest. There is an overwhelming massive complex universe of species and at the centre of the story is a small fight against tyranny. The performances were fine and the CGI integrates really well within the movie. I was prepared to hate this movie because I thought it was going to be more Netflix slop but actually found myself hooked. Really superb but then again I am a sci-fi nut so anything that presents a universe on the scale of Asimov or Herbert is going to get the nod from me.
- Brian E. BothwellOctober 23, 2025I know Rebel Moon took a beating from critics, but the extended "Director's Cut" is a completely different beast. It's the version that actually adds everything that was missing. Is it still a mostly action-based sci-fi drama? Yes, but I truly enjoyed it. Complaints about the poor dialogue or lacking plot could equally apply to any of the newer Star Wars films. Rebel Moon isn’t art, but it’s enjoyable popcorn fare. That extra runtime adds more rich world-building. The theatrical cut felt rushed, but this version lets the lore actually breathe. You get to spend time on the different planets, understand the history, and see why this galaxy feels so broken. It finally has that "lived-in" feel. More importantly, you get why this crew of misfits and rebels comes together. It’s got that classic "found family" vibe, and in the long cut, their motivations actually land. You believe in them. Yeah, it’s 100% Snyder—all the slow-mo and heavy mythic tones—but it feels like the kind of big, ambitious swing we wish we'd get from other big franchises. It's not trying to be Star Wars, but it scratches that same itch for a massive, original space opera. It’s got that "scrappy heroes vs. an evil empire" heart, just with its own dark, earnest spin. The visuals are obviously epic, but in this version, the scale feels earned because the story and characters finally back it up. If you're a lore-hound who just wants a big, mythic sci-fi saga, give the extended cut a serious shot. It’s the movie it was always meant to be.
- Donald WinzerMarch 28, 2025Drinking game: take a sip every time there's slow motion. You'll be on the floor by the 50 minute mark right around the time the movie starts to get going. Just watch any of the other western adaptations of Seven Samurai if you don't like reading subtitles. As a side node. You can generally tell how bad a movie is going to be based on the number of sub-titles it has. This one - also featuring two different punctuation marks: is no exception.
- AngelSeptember 9, 2025A new movie by ChatGPT, using sci-fi premieres as its training model—ordered from highest to lowest box office gross—with random race and gender mutations and a complete disregard for the laws of physics. Final Conclusion: Maybe in another century... and if you were human, please stop making movies. Thank you. Despair, tedium, apathy, and gratitude that it was over—that's what I felt during the screening of this immense embarrassment. Originality => -10 Screenplay => 0 Music => 0 Lead Actress => 0 Supporting Actors => 0 Ship Design => 0 CGI Character Design => 0 Special mention for the guy with the staff. WTF. P.S.: Does anyone remember what it felt like to leave a movie theater feeling surprised?
- darthtoonSeptember 3, 2025We've officially entered the Slop era of Films. To have Lucas films turn down your script for a Star Wars movies speaks volumes of how bad it is, nonsensical scenes that's only motivation is to set up the Visual in Zach Snyder's head regardless if it makes sense.
- HeyJeayMarch 13, 2025Tried to be something..bored me to sleep.
- Donal CahillAugust 16, 2025Entertaining action movie.
- UN1BALLApril 19, 2025Good opening movie to an epic 6 two part movie 12 in total deal by Zach snyder, felt every part syfi Magnificent Seven, has the potential to match Star Wars saga if the studio allows the creative direction to continue, like many studios they start large movie projects then tank them by messing with cast and directors then great projects fail and abandoned.
- Chris CJuly 13, 2025If I never see another slow-motion scene, I think I'll be happy, as it felt like a quarter of the entire movie here was in "slowmo". I get it, Zack, you're being all "dramatic" and "actiony" and stuff. Instead, it's just annoying as hell when it's used so frequently. Snyder's signature hyper-stylized visuals are also present here in abundance, whether you love them or hate them. The world-building and universe that's been created here is quite interesting, though, even if it's very inconsistent from a technological standpoint. The plot here isn't anything particularly unique, but it holds up well enough—it's basically a twist on the classic Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven. The action scenes are... fine, but again, nothing really special. Ultimately, how much you'll enjoy this film is likely going to be greatly influenced by how much you like Zack Snyder films in general. If you like his style, you'll probably like this. If he tends to annoy you (like many—but not all!—of his films do for me), then this is likely to annoy you some, too.
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025Director’s Cut: Chalice of Blood As soon as I heard there was an extended director’s cut planned for this film, I immediately decided to skip the original release. Almost every Zack Snyder film, I have liked his director’s cuts much, much, much, much, much better than his theatrical releases. So I thought I would try only watching the Director’s Cuts for these Rebel Moon films. Have to say, I really enjoyed this first chapter. It’s derivative as hell and it is bogged down at times with clunky expository dialogue, but it’s a solid sci-fi story with hyper-stylized (or Snyderized visuals)[compliment]. There’s some great looking action sequences, good amount of blood and gore, fair amount of nudity, and what can I say….I went in with pretty low expectations, but I enjoyed myself quite a bit. I think I’m sold on never watching a Snyder theatrical cut ever again unless I know it was his final cut. I’m actually looking forward to part two. Hopefully my now elevated expectations don’t put a damper on that experience.
- Mister ArnMay 23, 2025“Rebel Moon” delivers big on spectacle, with sweeping visuals and comic-book-style action. The story and characters may not leave a lasting impression, but if you're in it for space battles and shootouts, it’s an entertaining enough ride.
- Michael SurberApril 26, 2025Don't waste your time watching the short version. The Director's Cut is glorious. Zack Snyder delivers the goods in this first half. Three plus hours to really let the story build and fill in. Don't believe the bad pub, it's a great Sci-fi epic.
