Star Wars is so back. If you’re skeptical, just go in looking to have fun and then have fun! Because it’s a fun and well-paced Star Wars movie. Filoni and Favreau injected joy back into the franchise and I think thats what’s been missing for several years now.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
The Woman in Cabin 10
Neither the plot or the plan seemed super well thought out.

The Fabelmans
One of the best autobiographical stories I’ve ever experienced.

Lord of War
It was fine. Weird to see Jared Leto without plastic surgery.
If you need some catharsis because you’ve been mistreated by a finance bro, then this movie is for you!

I really liked this movie. McAdams and her co-lead were so magnetic snd funny, and had such a weird chemistry that was incredibly watchable. The plot had a little too much “Triangle of Sadness” and the CHI boar really sucked the life out of me. But all in all it felt deeply Raimi, and Elfman’s scored tied it all together nicely.
This movie had all the right ingredients but succumbed to being unfortunately derivative. Keoghan was a weird hybrid of Ledger’s Joker and Gosling’s Driver. There was an absence of substance though to justify his nihilism. We just never knew what he was about. On the other end, Thor and Hulk were very fun and charming with Catwoman, but it all got cleaned up too fast, and Ruffalo acquired some unbelievable rizz in unbelievable ways. And then there’s the cinematography. It was a weird mix of Nolan plus Gilligan and this is the part that felt most unhelpfully referential. They say great artists steal, and this movie had too much borrowing. Great title tho.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
I dunno… I feel like we didn’t really need this oddly scheduled sequel.
Truly iconic in so many ways, and a fascinating example of 80s maximalism. I especially loved the typography and costumes. And a pretty excellent car chase.

Anatomy of a Fall
This movie has been out for a while so I probably don’t have much to add, but I just gotta say, the French courtroom vibe is waaaaay more cool and fun than the American courtroom. Can we get some more French energy in our judicial system? I also loved the use of language — a German and a Frenchman using English for a middle ground in comprehending each other, but maybe that was the exact cause of their chasm.

A fascinating, disturbing, insightful, and odd examination of the loneliness epidemic were witnessing in the west. Despite our pocket-sized super computers, we are seemingly more disconnected than ever, and this show presses its finger down hard on that uncomfortable spot. It’s definitely a weird hang that I couldn’t recommend to most, but if you’re looking for one of the more original examinations of friendship, then I’d recommend this.
So much fun. I thought the storyline was pretty creative and engaging and there was a perfect amount of cameos to keep things interesting and moving. I also liked the layers of complexity between Mario and Bowser. Don’t let the haters ruin it for you, this is a fun movie.

Wicked: For Good
It should’ve just been one movie. This one really slogs along after the first one being so fun.
I was really scared to watch this movie because I have a five year-old and I was struggling with the idea of having to watch the loss of a child. Nonetheless, I did watch and I am really glad I did because it was such a powerful movie about parenthood and the inner excavation that you feel as a parent. Like you really do lose a part of interior into the livelihood of your child and I think that’s a really hard thing to capture and Chloe Zhao did a great job of doing that. I thought all the performances were great and to quote my friend Evan, “it was a movie about death that made you want to live life.”
A really solid and fun sci-fi adventure movie. Noticeably intentional filmmaking with great chemistry between all performers. The only knock is it was a little too slow near the end and could’ve been a little tighter. I really enjoyed the editing choices and that was probably my favorite part of the movie.
