A budding metropolitan investigator, Oleg Khlebnikov, kills a criminal during his arrest. Oleg is sure that villains should be punished not only by the court. The deceased turns out to be a media person, and in order to hush up the scandal, his death is called an accident, and Khlebnikov is sent to the taiga town of Watch to sit out, and soon return to Moscow. But a quiet business trip will not work.
