Worzel Gummidge Ratings & Reviews

First off, I want to dismiss the critics claiming that the picture quality is too waxy and there's not enough noise. Those types of complaints are purely down to personal taste and compared to how we've been watching these shows up until this release, it's a petty criticism, especially considering the effort and love that clearly went into restoring these episodes. Now, regarding the substance. How fitting is it that the original 16mm film negatives were discovered in a barn after 40 years! You can't make that up, but there was some serious damage to the film elements, so each episode went through some intense restoration and it clearly shows (see pictures). The quality difference compared to the old DVD's is amazing. The set itself consists of all 4 series on 5 discs, including the Christmas special, "A Cup O' Tea an' A Slice O' Cake". Along with every episode, each disc contains extras too, like unreleased interviews, outtakes, photo galleries, trailers and even the original Southern TV opening Ident. The set also comes with a very informative booklet explaining each episode and contains rare photos. To top it all off, a double-sided poster of the front cover by artist Graham Humphreys. All in all, this is a terrific release, painstakingly restored and if you have any nostalgia for this show, this set is an absolute must.
