Set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name, while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Watchmen Ratings & Reviews

This covers so much ground. I'm sure Moore is angry about its existence & hates it, & I love Alan, but... fuck his opinion most of the time. This show is truly The Watchmen for our generation. Such an amazing sequel.

A good Watchmen sequel series which folds traumatic issues into the genre. The talented cast, Watchmen universe, and story potential will certainly grab many to praise the potential more than the result. No doubt, Watchmen fans will love some new history, and the additions pre-1985 will be welcomed. Looks strong on first watch, but subsequent viewings may leave you confused by production decisions. After the first few episodes the serious social topics of race, police/vigilante brutality, inherited trauma, & sexuality aren't explored in any complex manner. Rather, the show prefers to define *all* matters in clear language, with no gray areas. Social issues are teased but never fully explored, and the topics become window dressing as the series loses itself in plot holes. This results in reprehensible actions of the main characters being wholly endorsed as "for the greater good". There are a few episodes where the writing loses sight of character development as characters stop dead to ask the Five Ws or curse one-another rather than write a proper scene. The inorganic developments are hand waved as later episodes cut in flashbacks from a previous episode to both fill time or insult your intelligence. It's wholly unnecessary for a series aimed at Mature audiences (TV-MA), and even occurs as flashbacks within the *same* episode!

A really good watch! Shame it won't be getting a season two so it sucks it was left on bit of a cliff hanger. But I really enjoyed how all of the different plots and perspectives come together.
