Upin & Ipin

Season 1

The series centres on a pair of 5-year-old twin boys, the titular Upin and Ipin, who tell stories of their everyday lives through fun and amusing actions with their friends while also learning new things during their day to day activities. Like every other children, Upin and Ipin are very mischievous and often find themselves getting into trouble, most of the time with their teenage sister Ros.

    Episode 1Esok PuasaThis episode shows how two 5 years old boys, Upin and Ipin, reacts when the word “fasting” is introduced to them. Like any other kids, they are curious to the reason and purpose of fasting. Their grandmother and sister are ever ready to explain to them in a subtle manner the meaning and reason for fasting. A comical scene of them having to wake up in the early hours of the morning for sahur will add up some spice to this episode.

    Episode 2DugaanIt is always difficult for young boys to fast for the first time especially if they are active and mischievous. They tend to forget that they are fasting when they wake up in the morning or after playing in the hot sun. The element of other religions respecting each other beliefs which is the essence of Malaysian life is clearly portrayed in this episode. Their non-Muslim friends will remind them that they are fasting when they forget. The episode will also bring nostalgic memories to the older viewers on how we fast during their first time.

It is common in Malaysia for Muslim families to prepare delicious food especially on the first day of fasting. The temptations of the boys and their excitement to the food prior to the breaking of fast will be interesting and fun to watch. Their hard works in fasting are rewarded when they enjoy the food to the limit. Both of them fell asleep soon after that with their stomach full, derailing their plan to go to the surau for tarawikh prayers.

Tarawikh prayers, which is only performed during the month of Ramadhan, is an occasion that children look upon to play with their friends at night rather than praying. It is no exception for Upin and Ipin, as they meet their friends. After the usual exchanges of their experience in fasting, they started playing a typical kids game in Malaysia. Their fun are stopped abruptly by their sister and ordered to join the prayer session.

    Episode 5Esok RayaIn this episode, the grandmother is trying to convince Upin and Ipin that fasting is an obligation that will be rewarded by Allah with enlightenment after life. It is the trend now that parent rewards their children with money for fasting instead of making them understand that fasting is a religious obligation. The episode will also be spice up with comical scenes of the boys preparing for Raya in a true Malaysian style.

    Episode 6Hari RayaThe episode starts with the boys, grandmother and sister visiting their parent’s grave in the morning of Raya. On their return from visiting the grave, their friends are around at their house to celebrate Raya together. We then see how they enjoy the food prepared by their grandmother with all their friends of various races and religions. While eating, they will be sharing their experience of fasting for the first time and Opah who will always be around providing advices and encouragements for them to fast in the coming years.
