Traun – A River Like a Crystal
E4 Jan 16, 2008 45m
The Traun is the central axis of a diverse water system: roaring glacial streams, waterfalls, countless lakes, springs of all kinds, cave waters, tranquil lowland meadows, and thousands of kilometers of creeks and river courses – all of this ultimately feeds a single river.
This diversity is almost beyond comprehension – and yet literally within view: from an elevated point north of the Danube, one can see the entire length of the river on a clear day, from the wild, strictly protected Traun wetlands in the city of Linz all the way to the Dachstein.
Thus, the wild journey of the water from the Dachstein to the Danube became the narrative thread. This was interwoven with a second: the journey of the river through the seasons. And then a third: the journey of the Traun through a millennium of its eventful history.
