A somewhat grumpy and uptight banker, Cosmo Topper, and the ghosts which only he could see or hear, George and Marion Kerby. The Kerbys would often try to get Cosmo to loosen up and enjoy life, but more often they would complicate it.

They then encounter an inebriated St. Bernard that Marion names Neil. Suddenly, all three are killed in an avalanche. Three months later, Cosmo Topper buys their home and discovers that the three are haunting the house. Since Topper discovered their spirits, he is the only one who can see or hear them.
