When the young athlete Birgit Dressel died in 1987 at the age of 26, it emerged a few months later that she had taken dozens of medications, including doping drugs, over the years and had taken a lot of painkillers in the last days of her life. She is considered the first doping-related death in the Federal Republic of Germany. Many indications point to a more complex involvement. To this day, no one has to answer for her death.
