- CubaneFebruary 2, 2026The adaptation from the novel stays true to the source material, and the acting is very solid. But dear god this is just not at all entertaining by modern standards. The first 6 episodes are 95% wet paint filler that you're expected to watch as it dries. The sets are dreary, cheap, and poorly lit. Maybe this is accurate for 1970s Britain but it's a little distracting when an actor closes a door and you can see the entire wall it's attached to flexing. There's very little filming on location aside from some street and exterior shots. Much of the character development is absent from this depiction, meaning a great deal of scenes boil down to stuffy nameless aristocrats drinking and bloviating amongst themselves. Highly recommended as a sleep aid!
