A limited anthology series that explores terror in America. The first season, 1950s-set "Covenant" centers around a black family who move from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood during the period known as The Great Migration. The family's idyllic home becomes ground-zero where malevolent forces, otherworldly, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them.

By far, the most vile and grotesque series I’ve seen in a while. Even more disgusting than the likes of American Horror Story. This series takes far too much pleasure in victimizing its black characters and exploiting the very real traumas black Americans endure. It’s all for the sake of entertainment. To say that this show is grossly irresponsible is an understatement. This show revels in the trauma on display which makes for nauseating viewing. The audience is never given the opportunity to see the family at the center of season one as anything else but victims of racism and terrorism. Not to mention it gives far too much screen time to its white characters. Then proceeds to flesh out those characters more than the protagonists at the center of the narrative. It’s all incredibly problematic and too often utilizes cliche horror tropes. One thing I can give this show credit for is the strong performances by the lead actors. They give their all and for the most part they knock it out of the ballpark. Unfortunately, their performances alone are not enough to elevate the material they are given to work with which is entirely frustrating. I do not recommend this show.
