Anton Lachmann learns from his former war comrade Ewald Koch that an empty arbor is to be leased from the allotment gardeners' association Die Laubenpieper e.V. Relaxing in the great outdoors has been a dream of father Lachmann for many years, who works as a shunter for the tram in Berlin. Ewald Koch, who works as a taxi driver, became his best friend and is the proud owner of an arbor himself. He encourages Anton that he absolutely has to convince his family of the advantages and comfort in the arbor colony. In discussions with his wife Käthe, son Benno, daughter Gitta and the grandfather, the family decides to go on a trip to see the arbor beeper. The initial skepticism turns into pure enthusiasm in a flash. New friendships are quickly made with other arbor beeper. But there are also plenty of experiences and excitements waiting for the Lachmann family in the arbor fresco.
