This program follows a veterinarian in England who treats animals with severe and/or life-threatening injuries. He has a state-of-the-art veterinary facility, but he also uses procedures that he has invented to care for the animals who come in. He has an excellent bedside manner for his four-legged patients and their two-legged "parents."

He also comes to the aid of Romanian stray Geoffrey, who was found abandoned and emaciated before being adopted by Kent couple John and Stacey, and an accident-prone cat called MK who has fallen from a window.

    Episode 2A five-year-old Great Dane is rushed to Fitzpatrick Referrals after losing the use of its back legs due to a slipped disc, with complications leaving the dog fighting for its life. A woman and her two children bring their pet spaniel to the practice after it is hit by a car, and a 10-year-old collie with hip dysplasia visits the surgery.

    Episode 3Professor Noel Fitzpatrick tends to a Newfoundland called Billy, who clocks up thousands of miles travelling back and forth from his home in Aberdeen for treatment on its legs. He also attempts to help Barney, a Yorkshire terrier that has a deformity in its neck that is compressing its spinal cord. For owners Linda and Barry, Noel is their last chance, but the operation involves high-risk surgery with no guarantee of success.
