A Bible-quoting mule skinner rides into Northfork looking for his estranged wife. He finds her singing in a saloon, and scornfully demands that she give him their infant baby girl. She refuses, and escapes to her hotel room. She prepares to flee Northfork the next day. In the meantime, Lucas agrees to take her baby home for safekeeping. Lucas must deal with both the baby and her whip-cracking father.
