500 Words with The One ShowThe final of the UK’s most successful writing competition for children, BBC's 500 Words, is celebrated at Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty the Queen. The competition, which is supported by BBC Teach, encourages children of all abilities to dive deep into their imagination and celebrates the best homegrown storytelling from all across the UK. At the event hosted by Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, the six winning original short stories are read by celebrities including Olivia Colman, Rose Ayling-Ellis and McFly’s Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones. Dame Mary Berry, a Celebration at 90As Dame Mary Berry turns 90, her extraordinary life and career are celebrated in a special episode of The One Show. Dame Mary takes us back to her childhood home in Bath and talks about her long career, becoming a household name as the queen of home cooking. Hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp surprise Mary in the studio by welcoming some of her celebrity friends to join her on the sofa. These include Claudia Winkleman, and Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, who have a special Bake-Off themed surprise. Masterchef judge and professional chef Monica Galetti is in charge of the birthday cake, and Michael Ball and the BBC Singers bring a musical finale by surprising her with a rendition of one of her favourite songs, specially adapted and arranged so that the words are all about Dame Mary!
