Picking up where Disney's animated film Tarzan (1999) left off, Tarzan is reunited with his animal family while assuming greater responsibilities as the successor to Kerchak. Tarzan, now king of the beasts, must protect the wildlife and the jungle itself. Tarzan also continues to learn about humans through the teachings of Jane.

Tarzan agrees as long as he gets a diamond for Jane in return. Little does he realize that the men are not planning to keep up their side of the bargain when the diamonds are collected—or that his friends are following them.
