David Vincent, an architect returning home after a hard, hard, day parks his car in an old ghost town in order to rest for a while before continuing on home. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, something wakes him: a strange object, nonhuman, that is landing in front of his eyes. From this moment, he will be trying to persuade a skeptical world that the invasion of our planet is going on, that the nightmare has begun.

They place one of their own as Dan Keller's new wife Laurie. She hypnotises Dan into replacing a crucial programming tape with one the aliens have prepared - one which will instruct NORAD's systems to ignore certain images.

Before he dies, he hands her a crystal, which she assumes both the alien and the crystal are signs from her god. Knowing the crystal's actually a part of an alien apparatus, David tries to buy it from her, but she's unwilling, and her father wants more money. David tries to explain that the aliens will kill to get it back.

    The Life SeekersA pair of aliens who want to return to their home planet and make a political argument against the invasion of Earth ask David Vincent to help them elude an intensive police manhunt.

    The PursuedAn alien woman contacts David hoping he can save her. She a mutant alien, who has uncontrolled emotions, and they want to kill her before she contacts Vincent. David is dubious, but he desperately wants her to testify at a special hearing.

    InquisitionIn Washington, a senator is killed by a bomb blast just after David and Edgar try unsuccessfully to convince him that a security advisor is an alien. A zealous and politically ambitious prosecuting attorney then plans to make a name for himself by indicting the members of the Believers for the murder, just as they are discovering that the aliens' grand plan to take over the earth and wipe out humanity is imminent.
