The Army orders the Cannon family to move on, but Big John Cannon won't budge. While his brother Buck rides off to recruit gun-carrying cowhands, Big John learns of another enemy: a Mexican land baron claims the Cannon property, and dispatches his men to seize the cattle.

The Firing WallEl Caudillo's girlfriend Conchita lures the hands from High Chaparral into Mexico where they are taken prisoner. El Caudillo wants to start his own revolution by executing the men including Manolito's father who tries to rescue them.

The AssassinsAn Apache renegade and his followers plan to kill Cochise's peace representative in the Cannon ranch house and start a new Indian war. Medicine man Nock-Ay-Del explains that Cochise will agree to live peacefully if John Cannon offers sufficient gifts. Buck warns against a death trap when an outpost guard is killed during negotiations. Sub-chief Soldado and three warriors move in towards the ranch house to accomplish their purpose.

SurvivalBlue and Big John are stranded in the desert by Apaches with no horses and water to see if they can survive like the Apaches. They capture an Apache wounded by Blue who they think may lead them to water when he becomes thirsty.

Gold Is Where You Leave ItWhen three men believe they have found gold on the High Chaparral, Big John orders the area destroyed. The three men decide to fight back putting the Cannons in danger and cause Buck to have conflicted feelings about Victoria.

Uncle Dan Brookes arrives suddenly after a 15-year absence seeking safety in the heavily fortified ranch. He conceals the fact he is wanted dead or alive for murder and has been shot by bounty hunters Mace and Gurney. When Buck hires the bounty hunters as ranch hands, Brookes saves his own skin by offering to help Mace and Gurney steal the Cannon payroll.

Champion of the Western WorldBlue has his eye on a $300 silver saddle but only $18. He and the men decide they can win the money at the Fourth of July rodeo. When only John wins at the rodeo, it is left to Blue filling in at a prize fight for the boxer he hurt.

Tiger by the TailBlue finds the wounded bandit El Tigre. At the ranch they tend to his wounds and as he heals he projects the persona of a man trying to do good for his people. During a gun battle to free him, Victoria learns the truth about him.

The PeacemakerAngry at being treated like a kid, Blue leaves. He finds a job scouting for a man and adopted Apache daughter who are there on government orders to make peace with Cochise. Blue falls for the girl but Cochise has other ideas about peace.

When Apache raids close Judah Austin's mine, he offers Stoner a bounty for Indian scalps despite John Cannon's objections. Stoner's son Chad is wounded in an attack on the Apaches and turns against his father while recuperating at the High Chaparral ranch.

A Joyful NoiseA priest, two nuns, and a young woman find Manolito who was bitten by a rattlesnake. They are hoping to build a convent on the ranch. Manolito falls in love with the woman but there is another man pursing her. However, she has other plans.

Threshold of CourageJohn Cannon is forced to relive his final days in the Civil War by a man he disfigured in combat. Vengeful Finley Carr and his brother Stacy kidnap Victoria and head for high country, certain John will follow. Carr captures John and subjects him to physical exhaustion and hunger for three days as he prepares to reverse the roles of their first meeting. Buck, Billy Blue and Manolito force one of Carr's men to help plan a rescue.
