The Hathaway family consisted of two humans, Elinore and Walter, and three chimps, the Marquis Chimps. Elinore treated them like children and served as a booking agent for the trio in their showbiz act. Real-estate agent Walter had mixed emotions about this arrangement, wondering if his wife thought more of the chimps than of him. The neighbors also had problems with the "children."
