As the ship prepares to dock in glamorous Capri, Nugie comes down with a sudden backache, which the ship's doctor diagnoses as "psychosomatic." He suggests to Susanna that she is intimidated by the city's romantic reputation and prescribes some "love and affection," and Susanna schemes to fix her up with an eligible man. Upon learning from musician Antonio that Capri men are primarily interested in beautiful and/or wealthy women, she selects two local "fortune hunters," Vittorio and Sebastian, both of whom declare that the other is the "the worst kind" of gold-digger, and casually tells them about her very rich but down-to-earth friend. Both men are intrigued and immediately begin to flatter Nugie with attention, and her backache miraculously disappears.
