The Game of Cat and Mouse Elevated to an Art Form. My Take on the Protagonists: A Clash of Brilliant Minds The series rests upon two incredible pillars. On one side, we have **The Jackal**, played by Eddie Redmayne—a machine of precision. He is cold, calculating, and a master of disguise—though, as we quickly notice, he’s a menace behind the wheel! On the other, **Bianca** (Lashana Lynch) serves as the perfect counterpart: an intelligence strategist who refuses to yield to bureaucracy or personal threats. The "pursuit" chemistry between the two is what keeps you glued to your seat; it isn't merely a gunfight, but a battle of wits—a contest to see who can anticipate the other's next move. **2. Comparison with the 1973 Version: Modernity vs. Classic** While the 1973 film is a masterpiece of "slow-burn," understated suspense, this 2024 version captures that essence and injects it with 21st-century adrenaline. In the original, the target was De Gaulle; here, the plot feels far more contemporary, featuring modern technology, drones, and a geopolitical landscape that feels acutely real today. The major difference is that the series takes the time to provide us with the characters' backstories, making them feel more human and less like mere "monuments"—a choice that heightens the emotional impact when things inevitably go wrong. **3. The Book vs. The Series: True to the Spirit** Frederick Forsyth wrote the textbook on how to craft a thriller, and the series honors that spirit of "detailed procedure." However, it also dares to expand upon that universe. While the book follows a straight line leading directly to the assassination attempt, the series branches out, introducing internal betrayals and a finale that—unlike the book's definitive conclusion—offers us a much broader horizon. **My Conclusion:** This is the perfect series for anyone who loves tactical puzzles. The ending was impeccable because it not only closed a chapter but also redefined the rules of the game for a second season—one where we’ll likely see The Jackal back with a new vendetta. That is, if they decide to make a second season—and I really hope they do! **Five stars, more than well-deserved!** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ That final scene... Uff! it was heart-stopping! 👊🏼🎬🔥

The Day of the Jackal is a masterclass in suspense and intrigue, delivering a methodical and chilling story of a professional assassin hunted across Europe. The original 1973 film stands out for its detailed procedural approach, with Edward Fox playing the Jackal—a cold, precise, and enigmatic killer whose every move is calculated and captivating. The tense atmosphere and lack of melodrama make it a timeless thriller that hooks you from start to finish. For fans of the 1997 Bruce Willis remake, you’ll recognize the Jackal’s ever-changing identity—a clever nod to the original’s theme of constant reinvention and evasion. Both versions keep you guessing and build suspense by never making their anti-hero predictable.

Glad they made a Jackal series. I loved the Bruce Willis Jackal movie version growing up. Great cat and mouse storyline with strong acting, cinematography and musical scores. Tends to be a little slow at times, but im a sucker for assassin shows.

    Absolutely brilliant

Wasn’t perfect but it was a good “action series” if you’re looking for that kind of thing. Would recommend. The title sequence feels like it was lifted directly from a Bond movie though.

The Day of the Jackal’ is a modern, high-octane thriller that reinvents Forsyth’s classic with style. Eddie Redmayne’s chilling, transformative performance as the elusive assassin anchors the series, while its globe-trotting cat-and-mouse chase delivers relentless tension and stylish action. A must-watch for anyone craving smart, suspenseful espionage.

The best TV show for a while. A really good remaking of the 70s film, brought up to modern day.

Tense, Smart, and Riveting "The Day of the Jackal" delivers a gripping and meticulously crafted thriller that keeps viewers on edge from start to finish. The series excels in building tension, with a story that unfolds with precision and intelligence, making every scene feel purposeful. The performances are strong across the board, capturing the cat-and-mouse dynamics between the assassin and those pursuing him. The pacing is deliberate but never dull, allowing the suspense to mount naturally while giving enough space for character development. The attention to detail in the setting, period, and atmosphere adds depth, immersing the audience fully into the narrative. While it doesn’t reinvent the thriller genre, "The Day of the Jackal" executes it exceptionally well, balancing clever plotting with compelling performances.

I liked the slow burn of the story and how the story developed. However, IMO, the acting was atrocious outside of Tedmayne and Corbero. It almost made me stop watching.

The pacing and acting were superb throughout; supporting characters also delivered excellent performances. The cinematography was exceptional, with beautifully lit scenes. One particular shot from the final episode was so striking that I saved it. This is arguably the finest action-thriller series released in recent memory. I rate it 10/10.

A fantastic modern rendition of the original 1973 movie. Very solid performances by both leads. Show starts extremely strong with the first episode and maintains good pacing throughout. A standout for me was the attention to detail in the firearms and technology depicted.

The series is really amazing. I wish the guy was a bit more meaty tho. It’s the kind of movie I watch in 1-2 sitting. At the edge of my seat.
