- 0 126 aprile 2026The actors in this version are pretty good. But there are too many memorable lines and scenes in the novel that are missing. It makes this series seemed cobbled together and the revenge story too seamless and easy. The Novel is so much better: "I, too, as happens to every man once in his life, have been taken by Satan into the highest mountain in the earth, and when there he showed me all the kingdoms of the earth, and as he said before, so said he to me, 'Child of earth, what wouldst thou have to make thee adore me?' I reflected long, for a gnawing ambition had long preyed upon me, and then I replied, 'Listen,—I have always heard tell of Providence, and yet I have never seen him, nor anything that resembles him, or which can make me believe that he exists. I wish to be Providence myself, for I feel that the most beautiful, noblest, most sublime thing in the world, is to recompense and punish."
- Jeremiah13 marzo 2026The 2002 adaptation of this classic is my only exposure to this story. And I love it. And im not sure why I’ve never searched out other adaptations, there are dozens, probably will soon. This is the latest, a 8 ep miniseries at about 8 hours long. And I found all the changes and additions fascinating. As expected it can get way more into the nitty gritty of the story just due to the extended runtime. I believe it’s much more book accurate than 02. And it’s all well done and executed. Much more grim and actually shows the ramifications of Edmond’s schemes of revenge much much more than 02. I prefer 02 for nostalgia and its wham bam, get in, get out in a doable time, and for just some creative decisions. But if ever I need that deep dive, this will def be there for that.
