John Corben, a former foe of Superman, suffers from sudden and intense pains. Luthor offers him the possibility of an operation that will not only save his life, but will give him the power to destroy Superman. As a result, Corben becomes Metallo, a super-villain with super- strength and resistance and a nucleus of kryptonite.
