Correspondence-school law graduate Tom Brewster travels west to seek his fortune. Unfortunately, his "cowboy" abilities leave a lot to be desired and earn him the nickname "Sugarfoot", which is one step lower than a "Tenderfoot".

    The WizardA traveling magician, who is also an accomplished hypnotist, hypnotizes his assistant and orders her to set fire and to name Sugarfoot as the arsonist. After the fire the irate townspeople, hearing Sugarfoot is responsible for the blaze, decide to lynch him.

    The GhostTom has been assigned by a court to bring a teenage boy back to claim his inheritance. The boy has been the ward of a tonic peddler who has been abusive toward him, causing him to develop a violent streak. The boy is also the prime suspect in the murder of the town sheriff, who was killed in a house everyone believes to be haunted. Tom hopes to prove the boy innocent and get him away from the peddler.

But big, simple-minded John Allman is actually a former cavalryman who is being hunted for robbery and murder by a group of bounty hunters called the Outlaw Exterminators. Tom sees his impulsive and violent streak, but still hopes to bring him in alive so he can get as fair a trial as possible. This episode is loosely based on historical fact.

    Yampa CrossingSugarfoot sets out to find a notorious outlaw whose signature is wanted by a Kansas City law firm. Sugarfoot finds the outlaw, but soon learns that there are other men in the area who want to capture him for the price on his head.

    Devil to PayTom learns that the owner of an Indian trading post, whom he was supposed to collect money from, is now dead. Tom volunteers to conduct an inventory of the post, despite finding an Arapaho "devil doll" in his backpack which is apparently meant as a warning and a curse. The owner of another trading post wants to buy the dead man's post himself, though it was willed to the owner's Indian stepdaughter and she has no plans to sell it.

    The Extra HandIn exchange for a horse and provisions, Sugarfoot agrees to travel with Alex Sharlakov, a former Russian seaman. After reaching Kansas, Sharlakov takes Sugarfoot to a ghost mining town, where the Russian looks for two men who had attempted to kill him.

    The Return of the Canary KidTom Brewster and Christopher Colt join forces to capture a gang of outlaws. Brewster disguises himself as the infamous Canary Kid and makes contact with the outlaws; then the real Kid escapes from prison and heads for the gang's hideout.

    The Mysterious StrangerTom has come to deeply respect the local attorney who's been teaching him about the law. But he is disturbed to find out that the man may be in part responsible for the oppression of the town's Polish workers, which has even escalated into murder. The trouble escalates when a young Polish pianist arrives and begins rallying the workers, and courting the daughter of a landowner whom the attorney had hoped would marry Tom.

    The Giant KillerA young widow, angered by a rumor which links her to the town's political boss, threatens to blow up a hotel. Sugarfoot tries to disprove the rumors in order to save the hotel and its occupants.

Just after he does this, the train is stopped by a troop of Maximilian's soldiers, who demand that the diamonds be given to them before the train be allowed to move, knowing that a second train will soon be coming up upon them.

    The MountainTom comes to a sacred mountain where fugitive Vic Bradley is hiding with his Indian wife. He tells Bradley that he has been granted a new trial, but Bradley is too fearful of being locked up for even a short time to come back with him, and in a fight with him Tom falls into the cave. Will Bradley have the courage to help him get out?
  • The Twister

    The TwisterAn outlaw holds Tom, a teacher, and three children hostage in a school while he waits for his schoolteacher brother, whom he claims is holding the money from one of his robberies. Meanwhile, there is another threat: ominous signs that a tornado is forming in the area.
  • The Vultures

    The VulturesAlong the trail, Sugarfoot comes upon a young woman wandering in a daze and takes her to a nearby fort. Sugarfoot finds that the fort has recently been attacked by Indians and its sole inhabitant is an officer who had been jailed on charges of desertion.

    The AvengersTom Brewster and a convicted murderer called Pike are passengers on the same stagecoach when a sudden storm forces the travelers to take shelter. While the travelers wait in a deserted cathedral, Pike's guard is shot. Sugarfoot traces the sniper to an abandoned mine shaft.

    Small HostageSugarfoot travels with Col. Cyrus Craig toward Mexico, where they are to claim the corpse of the colonel's son. En route, they are stopped by a gang of blackmailers.
  • Wolf

    WolfA poor old homesteader with a large brood is suspected of rustling cattle. Most of the town, including the lady rancher who hired Tom, believe he is harmless, but one rancher wants to see him hung. When the homesteader's eldest son, a gunslinger, returns home, it makes the situation potentially much worse.
