Stranger Things 3 Reviews
Entertainment Weekly
Darren Franich
This season can never come close to the transgressive thrill of the retro-pop it's imitating. And you miss the kid-vengeance appeal of the debut season, when Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her shaved head exuded righteous youthful anger.
AV Club
Emily L. Stephens
All the familiar beats of the episode don't mean this season is predictable, for us or for its characters.
Washington Post
Hank Stuever
"Stranger Things" spends hours and hours letting things unspool, with some episodes clocking in past the one-hour mark. Even heaped with tangents, the material just doesn't prove worthy.

Really amazing direction, and they're doing great stuff with where they're putting their characters. I really liked this season, a bit more than the last one.
The New Yorker
Maya Phillips
Despite the nerdy fun of "Stranger Things," its...over-all pluckiness, the show reveals how the kids-save-the-day model represents a romantic but ultimately uneven idealism that has echoes in our current political moment.
Autostraddle
Carmen Phillips
Its third season Stranger Things leans into what already made it great!
Vanity Fair
Sonia Saraiya
Based on how wonky and uneven the tone is this season, it feels as if Stranger Things has no idea how to raise its emotional stakes.
The Atlantic
Sophie Gilbert
What these ideas come down to, in the show's thrillingly propulsive and self-consciously familiar conclusion, is the nature of a country that fully believes it's the greatest in the world while also being well aware of its own capacity for destruction.
Dallas Morning News
Hunter Johnson
Even while some things go a bit too predictably, the last two episodes tie everything and everyone together in spectacular, emotional fashion.
Slate
Sam Adams
Even the most distinctive moments feel disconnected from the rest, especially a segment in the final episode that feels as if its sole purpose is to be extracted and recirculated as a meme.
New York Magazine/Vulture
Keith Phipps
A third (season) might have been pushing it but, hey, it worked too, and it ended in such a way that it would be a bummer if Stranger Things didn't return.
CNN.com
Brian Lowry
An enjoyably derivative eight-episode binge that's plenty of fun, if probably not worthy of all the hype and fuss.
Salon.com
Melanie McFarland
The strongest elements of Stranger Things is the writers' awareness of what the audience wants and the best way to deliver those treats.
Los Angeles Times
Lorraine Ali
When the band of misfits set out to solve the mystery, "Stranger Things 3" crackles with the same oddball charm, dark suspense, innocence and self-aware humor that made this nerdy monster tale a surprise hit in the first place.

Season 3 is more decadent and delicious than anything we could have ever imagined.
New York Times
Mike Hale
The Duffers' strength has more to do with clever and engaging packaging than with visceral imagination, and their scary beasts and battles royale haven't really evolved.
Us Weekly
Emily Longeretta
It's also worth noting that there's a new scene stealer in Priah Ferguson, who plays Lucas' sister Erica, whose bratty attitude translates into hilarious disposition for the entire group.
Bloody Disgusting
Meagan Navarro
The nostalgia is perfection, as are all of those nods and homages to '80s classics we hold dear, but that's not why we keep tuning in. That's a testament to the Duffer Brothers' densely packed story as it is the actors that have been tasked to play them.
The Ringer
Alison Herman
In a pleasant surprise, Stranger Things Season 3 manages to walk the line between conscious growth and mood maintenance, demonstrating self-awareness without puncturing its painstakingly recreated '80s bubble.
Rolling Stone
Alan Sepinwall
The greatest joy in the series at this stage comes from the way it's evolved into a hangout sitcom with periodic monster attacks.
