Season-long arcs centered on the Bajoran occupation’s aftermath, the Klingon-Cardassian War, and ultimately the Dominion War gave the series weight and consequence rarely seen in the franchise before. Victories felt costly, and compromises were often morally uncomfortable. Captain Sisko, Kira, Odo, Dukat, and Garak remain some of the most layered characters Star Trek has ever produced.
