The year is 2199. The human race was nearly destroyed in a war against the Gamilos and had to flee to underground cities. Researchers calculate they only have one year left. But then young officer Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima receive a mysterious message from a spaceship that has flown back to Earth from Mars.

It contains the last hope of mankind! Across the galaxy, the planet Iscandar possesses technology that can defeat the Gamilos and restore the planet.

The starship and battleship Yamato is tasked with the heroic task of attempting the maneuver, but they only have one year left...
