- flavo43November 24, 2025Space Precinct was a fun, surprisingly charming blend of police procedural and science fiction, a sort of NYPD Blue meets outer space filtered through Gerry Anderson’s unique creative vision. It leaned more toward family-friendly entertainment than gritty realism, but that was part of its appeal. The show’s straightforward crime-of-the-week structure made it easy to follow, even as it introduced strange alien species, futuristic tech, and interplanetary settings. What really set it apart were Anderson’s trademark puppetry-inspired aesthetics—animatronics, prosthetics, and creature designs that weren’t exactly realistic, but were imaginative and visually engaging. For a young viewer, the alien cops and criminals were downright amazing. Even as an adult, there’s something enjoyable about its earnestness and creativity. While it never reached the acclaim of Anderson’s earlier work, Space Precinct had a charm all its own. It was light, adventurous, and built on a wonderfully simple idea: cops, but in space—and it worked.
