ThomasDuring Thomas's club night, a girl named Sophia, high on drugs, jumps from the roof to her death. Thomas suspects that Cook dealt her drugs and picks a fight with him though it's Thomas who faces expulsion from college for his part in Sophia's death. He becomes reckless and aggressive and cheats on his girlfriend Pandora. When Naomi admits that she sold Sophia the drugs, he asks Pandora to take him back, but on Effy's advice she refuses.

EmilyEmily and Naomi are loved up and enjoying their extended summer of love together. The thorn in Emily's side is her family. Her mother is unable to accept Naomi as anything other than a bad influence, and is keen for Emily to go travelling alone.

CookCook is in prison after what happened at the party. He's told by his lawyer that he has no choice but to plead guilty... but Cook isn't willing to accept responsibility.

EffyEffy spends some time in a psychiatric hospital and is discharged under the care of psychotherapist John Foster, but her friends are concerned about Foster's influence over her, isolating her from the rest of them. After she freaks out at the scene of Tony's accident, she returns to hospital, where Freddie visits her and encounters Foster, whom he warns to stay away from her. Foster invites Freddie to his house to talk about Effy.
