Film begins with Theo leaving a note to his wife that he wants to kill himself. He wanders around in the park, exchanges his watch for 2 bottles of wodka and drinks heavily. Where he's found by the police just trying to hang himself in a branch. Flashback: Theo Lute starts drinking after the death of his son (whom he seemed to be quite obsessed with) and soon becomes addicted. He's leading a car repair place with his wife, who tried to hide his husband's addiction. Without success, she soon has to run the whole business, because Theo already starts daydrinking and is often "out of order". During a weekend stay with his friend Eugen at his dacha, a woman named Hilde is invited, who has got an affair with Eugen, but also already a boychild. Eugen is sleeping with her, while Theo is drinking heavily. When Hilde is leaving Theo asks to go with her and in his drunk state tries to explain that she would be an "ideal wife" for him with her boy. Hilde rejects his advances, but Theo attacks, rapes and in the end "accidently" breaks her neck. The next day he tells Eugen what happened, who says he'll take care of it (throwing her bike and her corpse into the nearby lake) if Theo keeps his mouth shut, but Theo couldn't keep up with his guilt. The film ends where the beginning halted, Theo is arrested.
