Different shapes are all around us and are a constant source of wonder to young children.
This week in Play School we explore shapes through play. Learning about basic shapes helps children recognise numbers and letters and sets the building blocks for learning to read and write later on.

Cut different shapes from a kitchen sponge and stick them to a cardboard cylinder. Roll the cylinder in paint, or use paint brushes to cover each sponge in paint. Roll the cylinder on a piece of paper to make prints. This would make great wrapping paper!
Use different shaped containers collected from your kitchen as building blocks and build a castle! Rectangular containers can be used to build the castle walls and round containers can be used as turrets.

- Decorations
- 1 cup salt
- 3/4 cup water
- Different shaped biscuit cutters
- Rolling pin
- Straw
- Ribbon
- Baking tray, lined with ba
