The Devil's Mark Ratings & Reviews
Tom & Lorenzo
Tom Fitzgerald and Lorenzo Marquez
Shit went down this episode. So much so that it left our heads spinning. In fact, if we have a complaint it's that the pacing was a bit off and certain aspects of the story probably weren't given enough time to breath a little.
Wall Street Journal
Sarene Leeds
Let's get the most crucial discussion out of the way first: If Claire had gone back through the stones at Craigh na Dun, and returned to Frank in 1945, there would be no more Outlander. It's as simple as that.
New York Magazine/Vulture
Ester Bloom
The two actors, it should be said, are marvelous here in a very challenging scene.
TV Fanatic
Carissa Pavlica
Anyone familiar with the books had an inkling (or knew exactly) what to expect, but with this cast, the scenery and the direction it was perfectly flawless in its delivery making for a stunning hour of television.
TV Equals
Samantha Kaye
Holy crap on a cracker, that was one amazing hour on television.
New York Times
Libby Hill
Geillis was simultaneously devious and delightful and the way she looked at Claire with a barely suppressed glee made little sense until "The Devil's Mark" snapped her into sharp focus with the single tug of a sleeve.
IGN Movies
Amy Ratcliffe
Tonight's episode hit an intense tone we haven't quite seen before but switched between that tone and quieter moments and then hit an emotional wall with full velocity. It was a ride.
HitFix
Donna Dickens
Suddenly, a wild PLOT TWIST appeared. It's super effective.
Entertainment Weekly
Amy Wilkinson
What a gut punch! (And I don't mean the Black Jack Randall kind.) "The Devil's Mark" has got to be the most emotional Outlander episode thus far.
Den of Geek
Rebecca Jane Stokes
The trial as portrayed on the show was utterly gripping.
Collider
Allison Keene
This episode was excellent. I was so emotionally invested in it from start to finish that I was practically shaking by the end.
AV Club
Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya
The trial gives new significance to past events... weaving together a detailed courtroom thriller that follows the structure of a procedural but is backed up by serialized storytelling.
The Young Folks
Gabrielle Bondi
What made this episode so entertaining is how it touched on all of the genres it covers, in particular the time travel element.
