If you look west from Wijk aan Zee, you see an oasis for surfers, beach walkers and sun lovers. Those who then look behind them see a gigantic hulk rising up: the steel mill casting its shadow over life in the small community. Where once the village and the factory formed a solid and inevitable unity, over the years the unrest and discord about the polluting aspects of the steel industry has increased. Will there actually be a place for the plant in the future? Kefah Allush goes in search of the sunny sides and the shady sides of this special oasis on the Dutch coast.
