Newsreaders Ratings & Reviews
- Christopher KingDecember 23, 2025This show picked up the mantle of fake news comedy delivered as seriously as possible from _The Onion Network News_, but the subversion is elevated by the comedy styling of _The State_ veteran David Wain. Every single episode has at least one true LAUGH OUT LOUD moment when some ridiculous line is delivered with utter seriousness and with exactly the same fake importance that real news readers on cable network news have. The art of this kind of "fake news" comedy is in the satire of the medium itself, and not just the fake news premises themselves. It isn't that cable network news people are both stupid and narcissistic, its the way the news reading is built around their vanity and narcissism in order for them to appeal to Joe Sixpack and Suzie Q. watching at home. This show highlights the vapidity of those people and how the medium of this kind of show automatically puts them into a position of superiority over their subjects and especially over you, the viewer, to whom they speak down to at every opportunity.
