Season 1 Reviews
AV Club
Noel Murray
NewsRadio was on its way to becoming one of the best sitcoms in TV history, starting with its third episode, "Smoking."
Common Sense Media
Emily Ashby
This show benefits from thoughtful casting, an extremely talented cast, and sharp writing that plays to the actors' strengths and promotes the banter and sarcastic exchanges to keep the laughs coming.
Variety
Todd McCarthy
NewsRadio features a group of caustic neurotics that many viewers will find entertaining. But nothing especially creative is introduced. There is a strong feeling of having listened to this station before -- which could mean a long run.
Orlando Sentinel
Hal Boedeker
Still, NewsRadio boasts a rich setting, droll characters and some fine actors... Hartman's comic brilliance will remind you how sorely Saturday Night Live misses him.
Entertainment Weekly
Ken Tucker
Hartman is already doing a brilliant job in a difficult role. After all, how does anyone do a boob anchorman without aping the definitive one, Ted Knight's Ted Baxter? But Hartman has figured out how to do it
Los Angeles Times
Howard Rosenberg
Where NewsRadio goes from here is anyone's guess. If slightly offbeat comedy that makes you laugh is a gauge, however, it deserves to travel a long way.
Washington Post
Tom Shales
Everybody involved needs to calm down, take a deep breath and go to work on some other show.
New York Times
John J. O'Connor
This cast, these writers, those producers: News Radio bears watching.
indieWire
Sam Adams
It was clear that NewsRadio was something special. Here was a show that, rather than expecting its audience to ignore the strangeness of a multicamera sitcom and instead played into it, crafting episodes with the breakneck absurdity of classic farce.
AV Club
Donna Bowman
I can tell that one of the great joys of this project is going to be watching the character of Bill McNeal become one of the comic axes of the show.
People Magazine
David Hiltbrand
NewsRadio is a nervier, more sophisticated version of WKRP in Cincinnati, updated to a time when people are much less secure about their jobs and far more wary about each other.
DVDJournal.com
Betsy Bozdech
One of the reasons NewsRadio works so well is because its characters are carefully developed to offer the same kinds of contradictions and idiosyncrasies that make real people so interesting.
PopMatters
Jesse Hassenger
It's a well-oiled machine in the first season.

Always had a healthy appreciation for the eccentric and the absurd, which helped the show transcend its borrowed roots.
New York Magazine/Vulture

This was an ensemble with talent like no other, helmed by Paul Simms, fresh off his stint at The Larry Sanders Show. Put those forces together and you have one amazing pilot.
New York Daily News
David Bianculli
The crispest, wittiest and most delightful new sitcom of the season making as self-assured, clever and distinctive a debut as Frasier did last season.
