Here's Krysta to explain in a Naked News Bulletin. XPrize seemed like an idea ahead of its time... and it was! The Google-backed contest to land an unmanned spacecraft on the moon will hit its March 31st deadline without anyone completing the mission. That means the THIRTY MILLION dollars in prize money will go unclaimed! In a statement, the heads of XPrize cited “the difficulties of fundraising” and “technical and regulatory challenges”... but they also noted that the competition changed the expectation that only government agencies can go to the moon.
