The MTV Europe Music Awards "(EMA)" were established in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to celebrate the most popular music videos in Europe. Originally beginning as an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music. The awards are chosen by MTV viewers throughout Europe. The MTV Europe Music Awards always changes its host city.

2016 MTV Europe Music AwardsBebe Rexha hosts the awards ceremony from the Ahoy Rotterdam stage. The show features live performances from Lukas Graham, Bruno Mars and Shawn Mendes, who makes his first appearance at the event and is nominated in four categories. Other nominees include Beyonce, DNCE, Zara Larsson, Duran Duran, Metallica, Calvin Harris and Lady Gaga. All but one of the categories will be decided by votes from the general public.
