Samantha, setting off one Saturday for an evening out with her boyfriend Charlie, feels sorry for Simon, who is staying in alone to watch an old film on TV. However, Simon is not left in peace to watch the film, as Derek arrives at the house, having been sent out for the evening by his wife. Derek insists on taking Simon out for a drink at a dreary local pub to discuss his problems, and how he intends to take up golf. Samantha decides to try to bring Simon together again with his former girlfriend, Lynn, whose son Hugo became Samantha's boyfriend. Samantha contacts Hugo, but when he comes to the house to see her, all thought of Simon and Lynn are forgotten as he greets her with a passionate kiss.Samantha decides to break off her romance with Charlie, so that she can devote herself to Hugo once more. However, she then finds out that Hugo is not prepared to her sake to break off his current romance with another girl.
