Maria Wern is a single mother of two and deputy crime commissioner on the Swedish island of Gotland. When a man is found murdered, she faces a bizarre and sinister affair. The body has been hung in a tree along with several dead animals. Soon the island is hit by another macabre murder. Is there a serial killer at stake?
