A few weeks after the 44th US President Barack Obama took office, the United States is celebrating the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln. His rise from poor circumstances to the 16th President of the USA is considered an exemplary embodiment of the American Dream. His life and the values for which Lincoln stood are a role model to this day. But Lincoln paid for his struggle for freedom and the abolition of slavery with his life.
