Rodolphe meets "Fleur de Marie," a young girl who was victimized by a shrew, "the Owl," until the age of 10, then forced into prostitution to survive. To save her from the "Schoolmaster" and the "Chourineur," two thugs who mistreat her, Rodolphe takes "Fleur de Marie" to the countryside. But who is Rodolphe, followed like a shadow by Murph? What is he doing in the Parisian underworld? What is he looking for?
