Season 1 Ratings & Reviews
Deadline Hollywood Daily
Dominic Patten
Once you get past the sinkhole, the special effects are OK. But with the tangents and characters, it's near impossible to piece together if Lea Brea is leaning into the early years of Lost, or the messy last season.
The Hollywood Reporter
Angie Han
For a series that opens on a massive sinkhole eating up an entire L.A. neighborhood, La Brea feels too middle-of-the-road to make much impression at all.
Variety
Caroline Framke
La Brea offers up plenty of answers by the end of the first episode. Perhaps that will keep some otherwise distracted viewers on board for the next, but more or less knowing what's happening does suck some of the intrigue out of the air.
Uproxx
Kimberly Ricci
This is a ludicrous, hot mess and, as far as I can tell, intended to be one. Yet that intent never surfaces as cheeky, which is why it's unlikely to ever win acclaim, but it's probably going to attract the same audience as Manifest.
Common Sense Media
Monique Jones
The show is entertaining, with enough intrigue to keep viewers interested. The cast is also multicultural and it appears that the show's writers are intent on providing viewers with characters who don't fall into common racial or cultural cliches.
Decider
Joel Keller
There are elements of La Brea, created and written by David Appelbaum... that work despite the show's inherent cheesiness.
Oregonian
Kristi Turnquist
It's quite possible "La Brea" may fall into a cancellation sinkhole before viewers get any idea of what's going on.
CBR
Josh Bell
There's very little in the premiere that suggests it's a world worth watching.
JoBlo's Movie Network

For all its ambition, La Brea is one of the weakest pilots I have seen in years. The special effects are bad, the characters cliche, and the dialogue painful.
Pajiba
Dustin Rowles
La Brea is everything I could have hoped for, and so, so much more. It not only knows it's a Lost knock-off, one of the characters actually references it.
Tell-Tale TV
Drew Koenig
The thing that the writers can't seem to tell is that what they've created isn't Lost. It has much more in common with something like Terra Nova.
The Young Folks
Danielle Solzman
La Brea will answer our questions little by little but this series requires patience with its weekly rollout.
Reason Online
Glenn Garvin
High on concept, low on planning, just dawdling along toward nowhere in particular.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Rob Owen
Remember Fox's prehistoric time-travel-to-the-dinosaur-age Terra Nova from 2011? It was as doomed to failure as this Land of the Lost update.
TV Fanatic
Laura Nowak
La Brea has a lot of potential with a talented cast in the Harris family and its ensemble cast. It could last at least a few seasons. Hopefully, it gets that chance. Unfortunately, NBC often cancels shows too early, especially its unique sci-fi shows.
