Manu tells the Peshwa that she seeks expertise in domestic tasks. When Manson tells the Peshwa that the Britons are about to hang 20 Bithur locals, Sakharam informs the Peshwa that not one of them is a Marathi. The Peshwa successfully bribes Manson to stop the Britons from crushing the locals. But Tatya Tope's insinuation that Manson is easily corruptible angers Manson and the Peshwa.
