Rather than going to school, Zack skips lessons to work for Tony, a fruit and vegetable stall holder at the local indoor market. Tony served time in prison during his youth and can see something of his younger self in this troubled boy. He finds himself becoming a mentor-father figure to Zack. On several occasions since Zack started working for him, Tony has seen him heading down that grim path of crime, even though Zack always insists it is in the best interests of his mum. After Zack is chased by one very irate shop-keeper and narrowly escapes being caught, Tony lays down the law. If Zack wants to end up like his father, then carry on. If not, change - before it is too late. Determined not to let Tony down, and to do the best for his mum the honest way, Zack makes a concerted effort to turn things around. He does not want to end up like his father. He decides to pay for the goods he has stolen from a local shop, much to the surprise of the shopkeeper. Then he makes the biggest decision of all - to return to school.

OversSince Maggie's husband Jack died, her life has become insular and repetitive, the same routine day in and day out. Nothing new, nothing exciting. Until one day, after accidentally knocking the on switch of her husband's old CB radio, which has remained idle for years, she comes into contact with Adam, a newly appointed park ranger on the Brecon Beacons. A friendship forms as Maggie, once a proficient photographer, introduces Adam via the airwaves to the spectacular views that the Brecon Beacons have to offer. They share lunch together on a daily basis, getting to know each other via the dusty old radio. Maggie's world is transformed: she sees a purpose to her life once more. She has a reason to get up in the morning. She constructs a large map of the Brecon Beacons in the radio room and uses it to direct Adam to all the wonderful places she once enjoyed visiting when she was younger and had a real zest for life. Maggie’s world suddenly comes tumbling down when one day Adam's boss comes on the radio insisting that Maggie ceases all contact with Adam. This is later confirmed by Adam, who has been threatened with the sack if he continues using his radio for personal conversations. Maggie and Adam, with great reluctance, discontinue their friendship. Does this mean Maggie will withdraw into herself again?
