Peter O'Brien, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, breaks out of jail while out on a work detail. Armed with a warden's rifle, he is ready to deal out to the two detectives that put him inside. In separate confrontations, he wounds Sen. Det. Mackay and shoots Det. Sgt. Bronson dead.
