As they struggle to find a way out, Calvin attempts to save Sophie from Sam's clutches by smashing a glass on his head, causing him to drop the lighter and the pub to explode. Sam is killed after being crushed by rubble, having been left to die by Russ. Joe goes to save a trapped Olivia, but they are killed when the alcohol from behind the bar falls and causes a second explosion, and Zoe learns of Joe's death by calling his cellphone - tracing it to one of the body bags. Sophie dies in Russ's arms, and just as Justin learns of Mel's death, he finds Sophie's body. Also, Calvin temporarily puts his problems with the Deans behind him as he saves Jake from the fire.

Justin mourns the loss of his sisters, Russ feels guilt over his actions regarding Sophie, Zoe regrets not telling Joe she had feelings for him, and Kris doubts the sincerity of Jessica's grief over Olivia. Meanwhile, O.B. remains unconscious, and Clare searches for the proof he had that she cheated on her husband. Jack, Frankie, and the Dean siblings have been displaced from their home, while they are grateful to Calvin for saving Jake's life.

John Paul is annoyed at the tryouts that Michaela is interested in Sonny. Michaela is annoyed he is so perfect, and John Paul says he’d swap shoes any day.

They are both given a warning and Sonny refuses to shake hands and make peace. Craig decides he can’t handle Sonny and will leave school. When he has met John Paul, his mate questions why he’d return to school to just give up. The pair see Jake and Carmel outside the salon who give Craig ideas for jobs. By the end of the conversation he is ready to return to school!

Craig makes a play for Sarah and both are trying to matchmake John Paul and Hannah who is far more interested in him than he is in her. Hannah invites her friends round to her house and is a bit full on with John Paul. Craig is desperate to ask Sarah out.

Sarah comes down to Drive n Buy for chocolate, and she suggests the two mates go to give her ideas for her essay on reconstructing a popular horror story. John Paul leaves Craig and Sarah as they are clearly getting on. After he goes they do get off together but are interrupted when Sarah receives an emergency phone call that Amy has been in a car crash.
