Marshall Dillon arrests the old man but gets to know him more and doesn't believe he could commit Murder. The judge finds the old man guilty and sentences him to hang. The old man gets a gun from his friend to coerce the Marshall to let him free but can't shoot him and the Marshall takes the gun. They ride together the next morning to Hayes city where the old man is set to hang.
