Buddhism and thousands of golden pagodas characterize Myanmar. The film journey begins in the metropolis of Yangon with its vibrant street markets, the harbor and the golden stupa of the Shwedagon Pagoda. 150 km to the east, the golden rock hovers over the abyss as a striking pilgrimage destination. Inle Lake is framed by the Shan Mountains. Skilful one-leg oarsmen throw out their nets and farmers order the floating gardens ". The lifeline of Myanmar is the more than 2,000 km long Ayeyarwady. By boat it goes to the villages and towns on its banks. The former royal city was Mandalay with the palace complex, the famous Buddha sculptors and goldsmiths. The fascinating setting in Amarapura is the sunset at the U-Bein Bridge, the longest teak bridge in the world. In Bagan, at sunrise, the hot air balloons glide over the 2,000 pagodas and temples that protrude from the plain to Mount Popa.
