When the head of Simes Steel Company commits suicide immediately after his company is absorbed by the Lemaire Enterprises, newspaper columnist Barnaby Hooke is spurred into finding out more information about Olga Lemaire. Only a few years earlier her husband, the original owner of Lemaire Enterprises, had died in an accident and shortly after that their son, Reggie, had disappeared.
